Readers familiar with Canon Hugh Wybrew's earlier book on the origins of the Liturgy (The Orthodox Liturgy...) should be aware that this is a work of quite a different kind. As the subtitle indicates, it consists mainly of selected texts (actually from the entire Triodion period plus Easter day); contrary to what the subtitle might suggest, the "commentary" is not on the texts per se, but on the main themes of the day.
