Centre City Board considers rescue of Scott Building

After years of neglect, the old Walker Scott Building at Fifth Avenue and Broadway may be rescued.

The Centre City Development Corp. board today will consider purchasing the building for $800,000.

Under the proposal, CCDC would buy the landmark 80,000-square-foot building from the seller, Lorren Daro, once he forecloses on the property and demonstrates that he has clear title to it.

"This authorization comes after continuing efforts by CCDC staff over the past several years to facilitate the private or private/public restoration and/or reuse of the property," said CCDC senior vice president Pam Hamilton and project manager Dennis Campbell, in a report to the board.
