WXIN-TV Channel 59, the local independent television station, reports that it's the nation's third-most-often-watched station among new, independent stations that broadcast in the top 35 television markets as measured by the Arbitron Ratings Co. of New York.
The station, which went on the air in February 1984 as WPDS, received a 7 percent share, from sign on to sign off, during Arbitron's February 1986 ratings period. That means 7 percent of all Indianapolis-area residents who watched television during that period tuned to WXIN.
The network affiliates continue to command the attention of the majority of viewers. During the recent sweeps WISH-TV Channel 8 had the highest share with 23 percent, followed by WTHR-TV Channel 13 with 21 percent, WRTV Channel 6 with 19 percent, WTTV Channel 4 with...
