JACK W. ALEXANDER
Vice President
Alexander Graphics Ltd.
Age: 61 (1-9-31)
Jack is the middle of the three Alexander brothers who are managing the typesetting firm founded in 1932 by their father. He joined the family firm in 1956, back when hot metal equipment was still in use and typesetting was all the company did. Now, Alexander Graphics is a holding company for Alexander Typesetting, Century Typesetting, Spaulding Typographers, Bindery Inc. and Heartland Technical Publishing, with state-of-the-art offices here, in Fort Wayne and in Louisville.
Since 1969, Jack has been in charge of the Plainfield operation, known as the photo lab, where all of the firm's printing goes on. Jack's brothers, Pete and Robert, run the downtown graphics division. Jack oversees 60 employees who operate six sheet-fed presses, five web presses and six duplicating machines.
Alexander was born here and finished his printing management degree at Carnegie Tech in 3-1/2 years. Upon his 1952 graduation, he went into the Air Force and flew amphibians as an air-rescue navigator. After four years of working in the sky, he returned home to begin his 36-year career with Alexander Typesetting.
For fun, he collects old Buicks, including six cars made from 1941 through 1975, and is a member of the Buick Club of Central Indiana and the Elks Club.
