Big iron wasn't all that manufacturers were showing at PRINT 05. Workflow software, print management systems and variable data tools were being demonstrated, and paper vendors had a lot to say, as well.
THOUGH PERHAPS not as impressive to look at as large offset presses, software systems and paper products had a lot of new features for their manufacturers to boast about at PRINT 05.
Agfa released :ApogeeX Prime and :ApogeeX Imager. :ApogeeX Prime is a workflow system that runs on a single platform. It includes PDF creation, preflighting, imposition, rendering, trapping and proofing. :ApogeeX Imager provides a distribute-and-print network using JDF by performing page imposition and plate imaging at remote print sites. Agfa also added the Remote Proofing Controller to :ApogeeX. It generates reliable and predictable color-managed digital proof files.
EFI debated the integration of its PrinterSite Exchange web-to-print solution with EFI Logic SQL print management system. This is provided by a new MIS Connector, which lets customers submit jobs from PrinterSite Exchange and then lets the in-plant manage the planning, production, scheduling, invoicing and accounting from the Logic MIS environment.
Kodak's Graphic Communications Group demonstrated the Kodak Enterprise Management Solution, developed by Creo. This software is designed for printers who oversee more than offset, helping them manage digital print workflows, fulfillment, mailing and other business...
