Inside the Publishing Revolution: The Adobe Story Pamela Pfiffner. 2003. Berkeley, CA: Peachpit Press. [ISBN 0-321-11564-3. 256 pages, inducling index. $50.00 USD.]
Folks who love splashy images and page layout may think of the oversized Inside the publishing revolution: The Adobe story as "eye candy" or "cornea gumbo," while those with a text-oriented bent may say that the images overwhelm the content. Of the many talented artists' work shown here, I especially like Gordon Struder's Photoshop collages (pp. 114-115), which remind me of Pablo Picasso's and Wassily Kanclinski's art; as well as the clean, crisp images by Pamela Hobbs (pp. 200-201).
Regardless of your feelings about this book's design elements, you are sure to be impressed with it for a variety of good reasons, even though the author of Adobe's corporate history is not unbiased. You may also be interested to know that Adobe donates a portion of the proceeds from this book to charities it deems worthy.
