BOULDER - With more than 15 different banks in Boulder, not including branches, a new addition seems destined to struggle for room in the competitive market. Yet FirsTier branch President Todd Peyok, sitting in his month-old office on Arapahoe Avenue, said he's confident about the budding branch's longevity.
"I don't think it was a very big risk for us," Peyok said. "We already had a lot of contacts in Boulder. We just didn't have the location."
Formerly Firstate Bank, FirsTier changed its name in November and added a new location in early December. Occupying what used to be Cain Travel on 30th and Arapahoe, the independent, family-owned bank based in Northglenn made the name change because of similarly named banks in Colorado Springs and Fort Collins.
Finding a location for the new branch was a bigger worry than survival once it got there, Peyok said. A new Boulder traffic ordinance prohibits new developments, banks or otherwise, from building drive-through facilities.
