ATLANTA - Avici Systems Inc., a core router maker in North Billerica, has signed an agreement in which Chinese network gear maker Huawei Technologies will rebrand and resell Avici's core routers.
"The Chinese market is one of the fastest-growing markets for routing," said Steve Kaufman, chief executive of Avici. "(Huawei) has a tremendous organization of 18,000 people, with 4,000 doing sales in-country and 8,000 salespeople total."
For Avici, an organization with about 240 employees, that's quite a sales channel.
According to Kaufman, Avici will see some revenue from the deal this year, though money will really start rolling in sometime in 2004. He declined to estimate the value of the deal to Avici.
