For some, instant messaging is no longer the untraceable home of their questionable communication.
Financial services and medical and health--care companies now have to archive all of their electronic communications, including instant messaging, under new regulations by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and as part of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
IMlogic Inc., a startup in Somerville, is ready to help those businesses comply with the regulations.
IMlogic has developed archiving technology to be embedded in servers that will gather and store each instant message sent within an enterprise.
Francis deSouza, founder and chief executive of IMlogic, said his IMlog product is already in use by several Fortune 500 companies including Merrill Lynch.
IMlogic is currently working with Microsoft Corp. on a similar deal.
DeSouza, 31, said his days as an entrepreneur started in high school when he would write video games then sell them to friends in order to make a buck to buy new computer equipment.
Born in Ethiopia, deSouza spent most of his time in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he was always fascinated with technology and business.
