This is one in a series of monthly reviews of books for young people written by teachers of children's literature. Today's reviews are by Melissa Cain, professor at the University of Findlay.

The Ohioana Library Association awards committees are hard at work screening books that are eligible for the 2019 Ohioana awards. As a member of the juvenile awards committee, I am pleased to share a few exciting children's books either set in Ohio or written by writers or illustrators with Ohio connections, i.e. they either reside in Ohio or did so for a period of five years or more. There is something for all ages here.

THIS IS THE NEST THAT ROBIN BUILT. Written and illustrated by Denise Fleming. Beach Lane Books. Ages 2-8. $17.99.

Fleming departs from her pulp painting illustration process in this book, using instead hand-decorated papers and collage. The story is accumulative, a play on This is the House that Jack Built.This time, it is a robin building a nest, assisted by a squirrel, a dog, a mouse, and other familiar animals. Fleming uses lots of alliteration and internal rhyme, which is fun to read aloud while also building vocabulary. Children should enjoy the fold...
