Computer-Based Learning (CBL) can be an invaluable tool in training sales associates to use in-store systems.
But the road is full of potent pitfalls, said Kevin Turner, vp, application development and store systems, Wal-Mart Stores Bentonville, Ark. He was a speaker at the recent Retail Systems '95 conference.
"CBL will only save payroll dollars if training is consistently completed," he says. "It's necessary to build a system that can be easily updated and remotely managed, so you can force compliance."
The bottom line, he says, is that "you must track, manage and make part of the evaluation criteria the required training, down to the associate level, or you won't get the payback out of the system.
