Abstract

The new results from the Lung Health Study confirm again that smoking cessation prolongs life. In addition to their public health importance, the findings remind clinicians that interventions do increase the rate of successful quitting. Samet suggests that physicians should obtain a smoking history from all patients and should help smokers quit.
