It's Grits (1978), directed by Stan Woodward, was undoubtedly the most enjoyable film experience of the 2006 NLCC.
Grits, grits and more grits. Who knew this humble corn cereal could justify a feature length documentary film? Yet, it does. Or should I say, they do? You see, Stan Woodward's marvelous film, It's Grits, doesn't quite settle the debate over whether grits is singular or plural. This cinematic homily on hominy raises many other poignant questions. What is a kosher grit? Is it a grits mill or a gristmill? How does one make a gritsicle?
At first blush this film may seem to be a cornpone version of those tongue-in-cheek pseudo-documentaries like Best in Show (2000) and Waiting for Guffman (1996). But...
