Johnsonville Sausage L.L.C. is planning a new plant in Sheboygan County and a new corporate headquarters office.
Taken together, the Johnsonville Sausage projects will provide a lift for the area, which is reeling over the June 23 announcement that Richardson Brothers Co. furniture plant in Sheboygan Falls would close by year-end, leaving
about 140 people without jobs. In May, Tecumseh Products Co. announced it would close its Sheboygan Falls foundry by September, costing about 250 employees their jobs.
Johnsonville Sausage announced on June 24 a new plant that could create as many as 120 new jobs in Sheboygan County over the next three years. The $34 million, 70,000-square-foot plant in the town of Sheboygan Falls is scheduled to open in spring 2004.
The plant is needed to meet the growing demand for bratwurst and other sausages, company management said.
The now facility will operate two 10-hour shifts, five days a week...
