Teaching clinical and diagnostic reasoning to advanced practice nursing students can be difficult at times. Primarily because a major shift in cognitive thinking from a nursing/systems model basis to a medical / symptom model basis is required. Not all nurses are comfortable with this new way of thinking. It does not help when nurse authors themselves are not precise with their terms.
