Capstone's newest release includes music for percussion by Daniel Adams. I enjoyed the first work, Isorhythmic Concerto. It could sound strident, but soloist Robert McCormick achieves a welcome lyricism from his percussion setup. McCormick performs or conducts on all of the works on the program; and he conveys a restless energy, aggressive but never harsh. With the exception of Ambience, a boring piece for wind chimes, Adams's music is serious and well crafted. It is repetitious and often dissonant, but never obnoxious. His most creative moments are in Stratum, for marimba...
