In their preface to Equity and Trusts in Australia and New Zealand, the authors state that their aim is to provide "an account of the general principles of equity and trusts in Australia and New Zealand". In the introduction, the authors refer to the large number of the important equity cases in the High Court of Australia and the New Zealand Court of Appeal during the 1980s and 1990s, particularly the "fluency ... in the development of new applications of equitable principle" by those courts. The vibrancy of the law in this area is shown by the extension of equitable principles into areas such as commercial and administrative law as well as developments by the courts in relation to restitution, estoppel and unconscionability to name but a few areas. Parts I and II of the book deal with historical matters and equity interests in property, particularly priorities and assignments.
