Communications-intercept provider Verint Systems Inc.'s prospective acquisition of an Israeli competitor would expand its global footprint and create openings in new markets, an analyst said.
Under the deal, which has been rumored for months, Verint would acquire all or part of Petah Tikvah-based ECtel Ltd., a majority owned subsidiary of another Israeli company, ECI Telecom.
Like Verint, ECtel makes equipment that government law enforcement and intelligence agencies use to intercept and monitor telephone calls, e-mail and Internet usage.
