Croydon Council/TfL scheme hits eight-month delay due to tunnelling problems and utility diversion work.
Hochtief has run into difficulties on its £33m Coulsdon bypass scheme in Surrey for Transport for London (TfL), leading to at least an eight-month delay for the twoyear contract.
The contractor, which is working on the scheme with designer Atkins, was due to deliver the 2.9km road scheme for TfL and Croydon Council last month after work started in January 2004.
However, the team has come across difficulties tunnelling under Smitham Station, due to "unforeseen ground conditions".
