Reauthorizing SHVIA, opposing Northpoint's "spectrum grab" and extending distant network signals' copyright licenses beyond next year should be DBS's Bill of Rights, DirecTV chmn/CEO Eddy Hartenstein said Tues, urging fellow dishheads to intensify lobbying. "[Some] people say DBS is losing steam, I couldn't disagree more," Hartenstein told SBCA's "Retailer Rally" in DC Tues. As evidence, he pointed to DirecTV and EchoStar's [DISH] better- than-expected sub growth and consistently high placement in consumer- satisfaction surveys. - On the News Corp [NWS] merger, Hartenstein predicted it should happen "soon," noting few roadblocks remain. He promised to have local signals up-and-running to all 210 DMAs not later than '08. "The goal is to get there by '06, but there are a lot of hurdles."
