Abstract

Korean companies face a new and much more demanding business environment that makes conventional manufacturing strategies inadequate and will demand new ones in order to strengthen international competitiveness in the 21st century. This paper examines the changing environment for Korean companies to understand why newer strategies are necessary. It analyzes how the manufacturing business units of Korean companies have fared under these new sets of conditions and assesses the competitiveness priorities of Korean manufacturing firms, compares them with their actual capabilities and assesses them in terms of action programs.
