Pinnacle Systems, Inc. has bolstered its video post-production arsenal yet again with the completion of its acquisition of SCM Micro-systems' Dazzle home video editing line. Acquired in the deal are selected assets and liabilities, including all intellectual property rights, inventory, trade names, and other rights related to the business for a total purchase price of approximately $21.5 million of Pinnacle Systems common stock.
The Dazzle line includes home video editing and post-production products for both analog and digital camcorders. Among the products are the Digital Video Creator Series DV capture and Hollywood DV-Bridge Series of analog-to-digital hardware/software bundles, both of which include external capture cards and Dazzle MovieStar non-linear editing software. Also included in the purchase is the entry-level DVD authoring tool DVD Complete. SCM will maintain its common interface division.
Pinnacle products comparable to the acguired Dazzle tools in the consumer/hobbyist space include the Studio 8 NLE and Expression DVD authoring tools, as well as Studio AV/DV, which bundles Studio 8 with a capture card that supports both analog and digital camcorders.
