TORONTO--The 10-person firm of Novita Techne Ltd. has carved out a niche for itself in the specialized fields of theatre and audio/video consulting.
Since its establishment in 1972, Novita has acted as a theatre consultant on more than 70 building projects in Canada, the United States, China, Germany, Croatia and Bermuda. On the audio/video side, it has designed systems for a wide variety of facilities.
Along the way, the firm has worked with a "who's who" of Canadian architects.
"You name them, we've worked for them," said Novita president Brian Arnott, who has a master's of fine arts degree in theatre design from the University of Alberta. He founded Novita after working as a theatrical designer in Canada and England.
Current major projects include a 900-seat Brampton theatre designed by Page + Steele Inc. and a 1,500-seat theatre at the new Casino Niagara.
Architects on that project are a joint venture of Zeidler Grinnell Partnership and Bregman + Hamann.
Novita's staff includes graduates of architecture and engineering programs as well as industrial design, acoustics, theatre design and technology, audio/video design and technology and computer technology.
