Introduced with great success during two New York City Opera seasons, 1958-60, Hugo Weisgall's Six Characters in Search of an Author went without another professional production until 1990, when it was rescued by Lyric Opera of Chicago's junior company, Lyric Opera Center for American Artists. Taken from these performances, New World Records' CD album at last brings this third of Weisgall's ten full-length operas the attention it deserves.
