Montreal (CP) -- Rolls-Royce will build a jet engine test centre in Montreal that will double as an emergency power source for the city in case of another massive blackout like the one during the ice storm of 1998.
The aerospace company said Thursday 200 jobs will be created by the $82-million investment. The Quebec government will provide $25 million of the money in grants.
Rolls-Royce already builds the large Trent turbine engines in the Montreal area. They are designed to power jet aircraft but Montreal produces industrial versions used for electric generators or pumping oil through pipelines.
