Modern Transaction Capture Requires a Systems Approach
It wasn't that long ago that document capture meant making a Photostat copy of a document. Things were much more straightforward: businesses would buy a copy machine and the only concerns were things like speed, paper capacities and collating. In imaging's earlier days, that same business model was still feasible-scanners were simply devices used to present images on a screen.
However, things have since gotten a lot more complicated. With high-speed capture, automated character recognition, data extraction, routing and workflow has come a host of much more complicated, and inter-connected systems. No longer is the image of a document the desired output, instead, it's the content of the document (or more accurately, millions of documents) and that content's role within a business process.
