In a land filled with thousands of miles of glass-encased strip malls, countless donut shops and ridiculously cold winters, it's no wonder Canada turns out some of the funniest people on the planet. Indeed, if we weren't laughing so much at our "culture", we'd probably be drinking ourselves into oblivion. And drinking, as we all know, is our true national sport. Nah, it's much easier to crack a joke.
Although we're very good at making the world giggle, those who've been down the path of professional camedy will tell you the business is down right harsh and extremely difficult. And although the road to comedic success can be rewarding, except some slammed doors, and a few humiliating comments, and a move away from home along the way.
Twenty seven year old Kedar Brown is one comedian who's travelling down the highway to comedic stardom. This year, the comic known only as Kedar won the title of Canada's funniest new comic at the Molson Canadian Comedy Slam - one of the biggest funny fests in Canada. But in the short time he's been in the business, Kedar has already collected a few unsavoury stories.
After the first time he tried stand up, the booker at the club told him his voice was too loud and his smile was too wide. "You sound like you're on the stage of the Apollo," he said. The comment bothered Kedar. Nevertheless, he decided to continues performing and "not change a thing" in his style, which he describes as " loud, boisterous and animated."
