Abstract
Making the decision to use a turnkey contractor involves numerous choices. First, the operator must closely evaluate motives and expectations for using turnkey before determining that this drilling option can meet requirements. Inherent in this phase is the ability to confront dated and sometimes unsubstantiated perceptions about turnkey drilling and its role in adding value to the drilling program. Next, the operator must consider not only the regional drilling expertise, but the industry trends and competitive factors as well. Finally, the operator must have a well-considered plan for managing the turnkey process, since the operator is responsible for the well, regardless of the contract terms.
