With roughly 25 percent of all new phone systems going into locations with 20-80 users, it's no surprise that the major vendors all have products targeted at that market segment. Lucent's newest are the Merlin Magix and Definity One. The former is the successor to Merlin Legend, while the latter is the latest addition to the Definity PBX family.
Will Merlin's Magic Continue?
The Merlin Magix Integrated System can support up to 200 user stations and 80 lines (trunks), and is based on the Merlin Legend R7 software platform. The system comes with all-new cabinets, port modules and phones, but an installed Merlin Legend can accept the new Magix's modules and thus be upgraded in the field. Both the old and new Legend work off the same control processor board, and the new Magix also supports existing Merlin MLX phones. The Magix is currently available for shipment.
The Magix comes with a built-in router and offers TI trunk interfaces. It also has integrated voice-mail messaging-up to six ports, 100 hours, 200 mailboxes-and up to nine Magix systems can be configured with a uniform dialing plan and centralized messaging support.
As noted, the Magix supports existing Legend phones noted, but it also supports existsix new digital Legend phones, but it also supports two six new digital telephone sets, a basic multiline display and three advanced multiline display phones.
