In an attempt to attract more employers, Mayo Health Plan Arizona is trying to start a preferred provider organization.
Currently, it has a license with the Arizona Department of Insurance for a health maintenance organization, a more restrictive product of managed care than a PPO.
Offering a PPO and an HMO would give employers more options, said Nancy Lashutka, executive director for Mayo Health Plan.
"I think we're no different than anyone else in the market," she said. "There's a need and a want for more choice by some of the employer groups for their employees."
