The IAB has urged SME companies worried about how they're being treated by search engines to find a voice through it, rather than the Search Engine Lobby Group.Founded by Top-pile CEO Paddy Bolger, the group aims to put pressure on search engines, which it says give unfair prominence to larger companies in a bid for higher revenues. The group, which now claims 140 members, up from 30 last week, is aiming to sign up 100,000.Earlier this month the IAB said it was looking at establishing industry-agreed standards on search marketing, governing the interaction of advertisers and providers (NMA 5 June).Chief executive Danny Meadows-Klue said, "There is an open door at the IAB for SMEs. If there are any serious structural issues, I want to hear from them."Asked whether he thought the new lobby group served a useful purpose, Meadows-Klue said, "We are moving into a world of fewer trade bodies, rather than more."But Bolger said the group was better placed to represent SMEs' interests because it may find itself "in confrontation" with the search engines, which the IAB would avoid.searchenginelobbygroup.comiabuk.netCopyright: Centaur Communications Ltd. and licensors
