Holiday Inn's American properties are about to get downsized and made over in a style reminiscent of the 1950s, when the chain was founded.
Executives with Holiday Inn are rolling out prototypes that call for fewer rooms on slightly smaller plots of land, but still include staples such as indoor swimming pools and family-style restaurants.
The first of the smaller prototypes was built on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth, Ga., and is owned and managed by Atlantabased Diplomat Hotel Corp.
