With a foreword by Mikhail Gorbachev, a preface by Leonardo DiCaprio, and text and photographs by Copeland, Antarctica: A Global Warning is a collaborative collection that seeks to reveal the state of the global ecosystem and to provide a call to action on its behalf. Developing from Copeland's work with Global Green, the work proposes that the ecological processes witnessed in Antarctica not only presage what will occur on a global scale as a consequence of global warming, but also represent an extreme example of what is occurring globally. Indeed, both the data and photos assert that the accelerated devastation of the Antarctic ice shelf is convincing evidence of global warming. In contrast to the seriousness of this topic, the work is organized whimsically and incorporates multiple perspectives and multiple formats in order to engage the reader. The book includes a DVD containing music as well as compelling cinematography and interviews with the author and his collaborators. It concludes with "Personal Climate Action" and "Community Advocacy" lists. Antarctica is a breathtakingly visual account of ecological crisis. Summing Up: Recommended. General readers.-H.
