When Alan Petlin decided to rename his 11-year-old flooring company, he was searching for a word to better describe his products.
He wanted a name that attracted attention and was more memorable than the venture's former moniker - Carpet & Flooring Materials,
So earlier this year, he went out with the old and in with the new. The transformation - Alan Petlin Gourmet Floors.
And Petlin agrees, it's all in the name.
"When you think of gourmet, you think expert specialist, the finest says Petlin. "It is all positive, and it absolutely describes what we do and what we are.
"We went from a totally unmemorable name to a name that you will look twice at, because it doesn't fit," explains Petlin. "Me word gourmet shouldn't be with floors; it should be with food."

The store carries large area rugs; wall-to-wall carpeting; different types of natural hardwood floor coverings, such as mesquite, oak and maple, ceramic and glass files, slate and stone; and other decorative floor accents, such as cork and bamboo, to name just a few. Petlin's showroom houses well over 100 different types of flooring products.
"We carry things that you just don't see anywhere else," says Petlin.
A good percentage of Petlin's showroom is dedicated to carpeting and rugs.
The rugs come in eight standard dimensions that range from 3 feet by 5 feet to 12 feet by 15 feet. But all the rugs they carry can be sized to fit any space.
Petlin says Gourmet Floors can make a rug that costs $100 a square foot, but...
