Unintech Consulting Engineers Inc.
W. Elisa Chan says she has always liked a challenge. Her success in meeting them is evident in her accomplishments.
When her husband asked her to come on board his civil engineering firm, Unintech Consulting Engineers Inc., the company had eight employees. But since joining in 1998, the firm has expanded the number of services it offers and grown to 47 employees.
Chan expanded the business first through a computer software program she designed. This program assisted engineers with designing and detailing retaining walls used in highway construction.
"In the computer industry things change so fast that you have to be really on top of things, and then you have to be able to transition all of those technical elements into the engineering firm," she explains.
But her ability to pursue opportunities goes beyond her expertise in computer science.
When the economy slowed, she led her firm in tapping into the residential market, where the company now provides services to six homebuilders.
"I have always embraced challenges. Instead of turning away from them, facing them helps you grow, and then you can step tip to whatever challenge or fear you face," says Chan.
Today, the challenge she is pursuing involves expanding Unintech beyond San Antonio.
