Abstract
The numerical computations of double diffusive natural convection by lateral heating and cooling were carried out for the system with a linear concentration gradient. Computations with a Galerkin finite element method were done for the Prandtl number Pr=0.01 or 6, the Rayleigh numbers Ra=W*, l(f or 10^. the Lewis number Le=100, the aspect ratio A=4, the buoyancy ratio #=10. At Pr=6 and Ra-l(^ the stable multi-layered convection was formed. At Pr=0.01 and Ra=W* or 10^ the whole system with a linear concentration gradient started to roll with the lateral heating and cooling.
