ABSTRACT
This paper discusses the research that had examined the representation of librarians in Indonesian films, release during the 2000s. Using the paradigm of cultural and media studies, the study examined nine Indonesian films portraying the profession detailed above. The units of analysis in this study are those film scenes that were either set in a library or that portrayed librarians. The method used to analyze the data source is the Critical Discourse Analysis, using analysis model from van Leuween that focuses on the visual representation of social actors. The analysis assessment was based on the distance from and angle to the scene as well as the position of the actors, and also actor's point of view which represent social distance, social relation and social interaction between depicted actors and the viewer. The results showed that the librarians as social actors represented as "the other" who was not particularly concerned about the general community, although when it comes to power context, community and librarians are in the same level.

1.INTRODUCTION
The 2007 Republic of Indonesia library law number 43, declared that a library is an institution that is rresponsible for managing document collections and professionally created works that are processed and safely retained utilizing a standard retention system, such that the needs of education, research, preservation of information are available when required. The same legislation also stated that the librarian is deemed to be a competence person, with skills acquired through either education or training, and to have a duty and responsibility to competently manage and maintain library services. From that sense, we see how the government decreed the library as an institution has a very important role, especially in the field of education. Library is believed to be an institution which has a major role and manages their collection professionally to deliver the various needs of their users. Which means librarian is a professional who has a job desk and responsibility to fulfil those needs (van Leeuwen, 2008).
However, do government aspirations stack up when compared with public perception is one question that springs to mind and is the positive image portrayed by judicial decrees legitimate when one considers documented evidence...
