This book is the fourth in the series of "Historical Studies on Anglican Christianity in China," published by Hong Kong University Press and the Hong Kong Sheng Rung Hui (Hong Kong Anglican Church). Archbishop of Hong Kong, Paul Kwong, says in the foreword, "We see in the history of Anglicanism in China that women have been involved in the mission of the church from our nineteenth-century beginnings to the present day . . . a considerable development of the role of women in the church, in both lay and ordained ministry" (ix). This volume originated in the first international conference on Christian Women in Chinese Society, held in Hong Kong in 2015. In the introduction, the editors Wai Ching Angela Wong and Patricia P. K. Chiu state that "the history of Anglican women in Chinese society needs to be reclaimed for women's struggle to be remembered and their contribution recognized" (8-9), thus aiming to recount the history of...
