Sprint expanded the appeal of its popular frame-relay service last week with lower prices and a new service guarantee, becoming the third major long distance carrier to drop or disclose frame-relay rates in as many months.
The flurry of activity began in April, when AT&T published its frame-relay service rates for the first time and repriced the service to make it more economical for use in highly meshed networks.
MCI Communications Corp. followed suit within weeks with its own published rates.
Sprint's pricing plan is for users of its newly renamed Burst Express service who agree to a zero committed information rate for connections between sites. A committed information rate is a guaranteed theshold that will be maintained by the frame-relay service provider when data is being sent over the carrier's network.
