The arcane art of IP address management is about to take some big steps forward.
Existing products offer only rudimentary control, but leading suppliers of IP address management software intend to change that. American Internet Corp. and Quadritek Systems Inc. are readying capabilities that will extend their respective Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol and Domain Name Service products beyond merely regulating TCP/IP addresses. Both companies will add management of directory services; IP services including remote access, security, file and print services; and administrative policy controls to their basic wares.
"Unifying all these capabilities will make for better, faster and easier deployment and management of intranets," declared Arun Kapur, Quadritek's chairman and chief technology officer.
The first of the upgrades will roll out today when American Internet unveils its Intranet Builder software module for its Network Registrar DNS-DHCP software. The software links business partners and individual business units of global conglomerates with multiple domains over intranets instead of requiring them to be connected over external DNS servers. This method ensures broader access to internal data and better security.
Intranet Builder, bundled with the Network Registrar, will be generally available later this month and priced at $7,000 for a single-server license accommodating 2,000 IP addresses.
