pos, Inc. (EPOS) May 13 introduced the PenWare 120, a digital signature capture terminal that integrates into a computer or existing point-of-sale (POS) transaction system. The pos PenWare 120 is a small countertop terminal where signatures are written with a plastic stylus on a backlit pressure-sensitive screen. "Digital ink" allows for the signature to be seen as it is written. Signatures are captured in digital form, compressed and then, securely stored electronically, on the host computer system, for retrieval, printing, faxing, or mailing. The terminal facilitates the elimination of paper receipts or forms and increases operational efficiencies. To integrate the PenWare 120 easily to the host computer system, pos provides complete software development toolkits (SDK) to support environments like Windows 98/2000 and NT4.0. The SDKs include pos' patented compression and smoothing algorithm to compress signature file sizes for storage and process transactions faster. The PenWare 120 can be integrated in a variety of environments including: financial institutions for customer transactions, pharmacy counters to meet regulations for digital signatures, law offices for legal contracts and forms, and government offices to produce identification badges.
