Some products are just plain fun to use. The Pivot 1700 multifrequency 17-inch monitor from Portrait Display Labs Inc., Pleasanton. Calif., is one of them. The CRN Test Center recommends it.
Pivoting monitors--those that work in both portrait and landscape modes--have been around for years, mostly from Portrait Display Labs' sister company Radius Inc. Indeed, the new Portrait Display Labs offering represents a new generation of Radius' own technology.
The monitor employs a .26mm flat square tube made by Hitachi, offers up to 1280 x 1024 resolution horizontally or vertically, features full digital controls and is compatible with PCs and Macintoshes. It complies with the MPR II standard for electromagnetic-emissions control and with the Energy Star standard for energy conservation.
