Lotus Development Corp., conceding the desktop to Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft Corp., is using its applications to boost its communications business.
Lotus hopes its NotesSuite, which it plans to ship this quarter, will drive Notes sales by making the product easier to use and more affordable to small accounts. Notes currently constitutes about a third of Lotus' business.
The $995 CD-ROM suite offers two copies of SmartSuite 3.0 for Windows, two Notes Windows clients, online and hard-copy documentation, 30 days of support and a Notes server on either OS/2, Unix or Windows NT platforms or an NLM.
