THE SANTA CRUZ OPERATION INC. launched a modernized logo and a modern Windows-friendly strategy last month in hopes of fending off incursions by both Microsoft Corp. and other Unix vendors.
In addition to revving up the marketing power behind its flagship software product, OpenServer Release 5, the Santa Cruz Operation (SCO) set up two new business units with the intention of addressing its Windows-related challenges.
Executives for the developer, based here, also said they plan to acquire or develop tools for VARs to integrate Unix servers and Windows desktops.
"Microsoft can't do it all," said Alok Mohan, president and chief executive of SCO. "With tools, databases, networking, communications and operating systems, customers want to choose best of breed."
