SAN FRANCISCO-IBM Corp. plans a sweeping set of enhancements and new releases in the workstation-class versions of its DB2 databases.
Leading the way is Version 1.2 of DB2/2 for OS/2 systems, which will become available by the end of June with new support for online backup capabilities that enable remote management and administration. Such capabilities have been available in the MVS version of DB2, said Janet Perna, director of database technology in IBM Software Solutions, Toronto.
In addition, the new release supports symmetric multiprocessing, a function that can be leveraged once IBM ships an SMP version of OS/2.
