NOTEBOOK COMPUTERS are evolving as quickly as desktops, although they tend to lag a step or two behind in terms of performance. Even so, today's notebooks offer enough power and convenience to substitute for desktops. Hewlett-Packard Co.'s new line of mobile computers, for one, is impressive. The OmniBook 2100, 4100 and 7100 series can all use the same docking station, so resellers only have to carry a single part. Meanwhile, the OmniBook Sojourn is as sleek as notebooks come.
OmniBook 2100
The OmniBook 2100 is a competent performer at a bargain price. It comes with a 233MHz mobile Pentium with MMX, 512-Kbyte Level 2 cache and 32 Mbytes of memory, expandable to 96 Mbytes. The 2100 has NiMH battery that runs up to three hours. The notebook measures 11.75 x 9.2 x 1.8 inches and weighs 6.4 pounds. The 2100 scored 190 overall on BAPCo SYSmark 32. OmniBook 4100
