Palm Springs, Calif.-A FASHION SHOW of conceptual PC designs and a move toward breaking the 1GHz barrier on a standard microprocessor were among the highlights at last week's Intel Developer Forum. PC designs included the Velocity Group by Anderson Design's "Ikebana," which imitates a colorful flower arrangement. Other concepts included Ziba Design's blue feeding fish called Koi and the company's roundish green Castia, which means "rabbit." The designs are intended to show the possibilities of new "legacy-free" platforms.
In his keynote, Patrick Gelsinger, vice president and general manager of Intel Corp.'s desktop products group, presented four concepts for development-speed, security, simplicity and style.
In keeping with the design theme, Gelsinger discussed Intel's new FlexATX motherboard form factor, which he said will allow manufacturers to design smaller, easier-to-use PCs for reduced cost. The specification allows...
