Hewlett-Packard pushed back its plan to pay upfront rebates to Oct. 1, while rival Compaq Computer is finalizing a pilot up-front rebate program.
HP's up-front rebates initially were scheduled to be rolled out Sept. 1. But HP decided to delay the program a month because it is very system-intensive and the vendor wanted to "minimize operational risks," says Kevin Gilroy, vice president and general manager of HP's North America commercial channels.
