DSL service providers have their work cutout for them when attempting to establish new customers.
Since incumbent phone companies like Pacific Bell own those crucial copper lines, DSL providers depend on these bureaucratic and slow-moving mammoths to help determine when they can offer DSL, secure and provision the lines, and institute billing.
Errors, scheduling mishaps and technical glitches can further muddy the process. And the headaches only multiply when DSL providers offer services nationally, and are thus forced to deal with several Baby Bells, each with their own continually evolving set of rules, formats and prices.
But as the old adage goes, one man's woes is another's opportunity and Oakland-based NightFire Software has seized on one.
The 3-year-old company has developed several software products to streamline communication between the two parties.
