It's make or break time for Transmeta Corp. Whether the company's full frontal assault in the lightweight-notebook sector comes to fruition in the near term hinges on what microprocessor competitor Intel Corp. unveils within a year, as well as the magnitude of the U.S. market's thirst for long battery life and low-weight notebook computers.
But according to analysts, Transmeta's new Crusoe MPU line, to be launched today at the TECHXNY conference (formerly PC Expo) in New York, will outdo anything Intel will have to offer in terms of power consumption until well into next year.
